Moulton Votes ‘Yes’ on H.Res. 1099

WASHINGTON, D.C.- Congressman Seth Moulton (MA-06) issued the following statement today regarding his vote on House Resolution 1099.

"Today, I voted Yes on H.Res. 1099. The facts in this resolution are not in dispute. Iran funds Hezbollah, Hamas, and the Houthis. Iranian-backed militias are responsible for the deaths of many American service members in Iraq. We cannot expect the American people to trust us if we refuse to state obvious facts.

"But I also need to be clear about what this vote is not, because Republicans would love nothing more than to use this resolution as cover for reckless military adventurism and warmongering. Voting Yes on this resolution is not a green light for this war. It is not permission for the Trump Administration to bypass Congress and send American service members into another forever war without a strategy, without a plan to win, and without the constitutional authorization that the law requires.

To that end, I also voted Yes on today's War Powers Resolution, which would curtail this Administration's war powers and end this war before any more American lives are lost. We can acknowledge that Iran is a dangerous state sponsor of terror without saying the answer is a reckless war the American people do not want. Those two things are not in conflict."
