Sewer Maintenance in NewBo & Czech Village

City crews are in the NewBo and Czech Village areas investigating reports of water in basements. Several manholes in the area have also been found full of water; we suspect there may be a blockage in a large downstream pipe or possible infrastructure damage.

To help manage the excess sewer water volume, we are bringing in temporary pumps. These pumps will move water out of the area, will improve pipe visibility, and enable us to more easily identify the cause of the backup.

While we learn more, additional personnel and equipment are being activated to develop and implement plans that prioritize a speedy repair process with minimal impacts to nearby properties.

We know this is concerning for affected residents and businesses. Our teams are focused on resolving the problem, and we will continue to share updates as more information becomes available. In the meantime, we kindly request individuals to avoid the intersection of 16th Avenue SE and 2nd Street SE and the intersection of 16th Avenue SW and A Street SW, as well as Bowling Street SW north of C Street SW.
