DALLAS - W.T. White High School has named Bryson Lewis as its new athletic coordinator and head football coach. This is his first head football coaching position.

"I am excited to lead the W.T. White athletic department and coach the Longhorns' football team," Lewis said. "I am grateful to Principal Wing for the opportunity to join the W.T. White community and cannot wait to get started."

Lewis joins W.T. White from Lloyd V. Berkner High School in Richardson ISD, where he served as a teacher, assistant head football coach, and defensive coordinator since 2021. He helped lead the Rams to three consecutive playoff appearances, including their first postseason berth since 2011.

Lewis' defenses have consistently ranked among the top in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Last season, his unit ranked third in passing defense, eighth in scoring defense, and 12th in total defense. In addition to his defensive duties, served as Berkner's powerlifting coach and recruiting coordinator, helping 26 players earn college scholarship offers.

"I am committed to building a culture of excellence, accountability, and character development. My coaching philosophy extends beyond the game, mentoring student-athletes to excel in academics, leadership, and life," Lewis said.

He also brings more than 11 years of coaching experience to W.T. White, with previous stops at Red Oak High School and Bishop Dunne Catholic School.

At Red Oak (2019-2021), he coached cornerbacks and the secondary before taking on the role of special teams coordinator in 2020. He also served as an assistant track & field coach.

From 2015 to 2019, Lewis was part of the coaching staff at Bishop Dunne, helping guide the Falcons to the 2018 Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools 6A State Championship. He served as the co-defensive coordinator and special teams coordinator while also coaching linebackers, defensive ends, and the defensive line. In addition to coaching at Bishop Dunne, he taught social and emotional learning and served as the academic and discipline coordinator for the freshman class.

Lewis is a product of Dallas ISD and a 2006 graduate of Justin F. Kimball High School, where he was a multi-sport athlete. He played football, basketball, golf, and track & field, serving as a team captain on the football team as a hybrid outside linebacker/defensive end. He also was a district champion in shot put and was the MVP of the Knights' golf team.

He went on to play college football at Abilene Christian University, where he was a four-year starter and two-year team captain for the Wildcats at linebacker. A two-time All-Lone Star Conference selection (2008, 2010), Lewis helped lead the Wildcats to an NCAA playoff appearance in 2010, finishing with an 8-3 record and a No. 16 national ranking. He also gained coaching experience as a student assistant during the 2010-2011 season, working with linebackers and special teams. Lewis earned a bachelor's degree in exercise science in occupational therapy from Abilene Christian in 2011.

He is a member of the Texas High School Coaches Association and the Black Coaches of Texas.

Lewis is slated to begin his new role at W.T. White this week.
