Assault in the Third Degree/Kidnapping

On Friday, September 26, 2025, at approximately 1:10 p.m., the Maui Police Department responded to a report of an assault involving juveniles at Kalama Intermediate School, located at 120 Makani Road in Makawao.

The investigation determined that a 13-year-old male student was involved in an incident with five female students, ages 13 to 14, in a soundproof room near the Ukulele Room. The male student was unable to leave the room while some of the females blocked the door, with one holding his arm and another holding the door closed. Several of the female students recorded the incident on their phones. After approximately 20 minutes, the male student managed to exit the room.

Following the investigation, the Maui Police Department initiated cases for Assault in the Third Degree and Kidnapping. On Monday, October 20, 2025, all five juvenile females involved were taken into custody and subsequently released to the custody of Family Court. Four females (13, 13, 13, 14) were arrested and charged with Assault in the Third Degree and Kidnapping. One female (14) was arrested and charged with Kidnapping. In accordance with state law, which protects the identities of minors, the names of the juveniles are withheld to maintain confidentiality.
