The Nashville Davidson County Register of Deeds Office announced today that it has received approval from the U.S. Department of State to serve as a passport acceptance facility. Under this designation, the office will be authorized to accept applications for new passports and assist with renewals of expired passports. "The Office of the Register of Deeds is pleased to expand access to essential services while continuing our core mission," said Register of Deeds Karen Johnson. "With a limited number of passport acceptance locations available, this designation allows us to improve convenience for city residents." Staff members recently completed the required training and will be ready to begin offering services on Monday, February 23. Sign-ups are required and can be done by accessing the appointment link on the website, which will include hours of service, appointment dates and times, fees, and other details. The Register of Deeds is a constitutional office established by the Tennessee General Assembly as the custodian of legal documents pertaining to real property. The office is currently led by Karen Johnson, who made history as the first woman and African American elected to the position.
