Music Appreciation Month Celebration June 26
Free Outdoor Community Event Offers Music, Dancing, Refreshments, Contests, Raffles
And More At Historic Westside School Campus 6 To 8 P.M.
Bring the family for some fun Friday, June 26, 6-8 p.m. at a free celebration of African American Music Appreciation Month at the Historic Westside School campus, located at 330 W. Washington Ave. Back for a second year, this outdoor community celebration brings music, history and fun together to honor and appreciate the powerful influence and legacy of Black music in American culture.
Attendees will enjoy music, light refreshments, music trivia, raffles, giveaways, dancing and a dance contest. Community partners will offer information and assistance.
Black Music Appreciation Month was established in 1979 by President Jimmy Carter to recognize the lasting impact of Black artists and musical traditions. President Obama officially renamed the honor African American Music Appreciation Month in 2009. No tickets are required, but you can reserve your spot and sign up for event updates here.
