City to Host Free Green Girls Summer Camp for Middle School-Age Girls

The City's Office of Sustainability and Resilience within the Solid Waste & Recycling Department, in partnership with the City's Water Resources Department, Guilford County Planning & Development, and Guilford County Soil & Water Conservation, will host Green Girls, a free four-day summer camp for middle school-age girls focused on science, sustainability, and environmental research.

The camp will be held Monday, June 22 - Thursday, June 25, from 1-5 pm each day. A rain date is scheduled for Friday, June 26, if needed. Participants are expected to attend all sessions.

Through hands-on indoor and outdoor activities, participants will explore topics including water quality, waste and recycling, pollinators, and sustainable planning. Girls will receive a program certificate of completion and a thank-you prize.

Camp sessions include:

  • Monday, June 22: Water Quality in My City at Kathleen Clay Edwards Family Branch
  • Tuesday, June 23: Reimagining Waste at White Street Landfill
  • Wednesday, June 24: Pollinator Power at Gateway Gardens
  • Thursday, June 25: Planning for a Greener Future at Gateway Gardens

Participants should wear closed-toe shoes suitable for outdoor activities and bring a reusable water bottle, hat, sunscreen, and bug spray, if needed.
