IDSA statement on vaccine executive order

The American people deserve childhood vaccine recommendations that are made by qualified experts, through an established, transparent process and based on the best available scientific evidence. Today's executive order undermines all three of these fundamental standards.

At a time when measles outbreaks are already threatening communities across the country, making vaccination more complicated and burdensome risks further reducing vaccination rates and leaving more children vulnerable to a highly contagious and potentially deadly disease.

This action follows an alarming pattern of government efforts to reduce Americans' access to vaccines and sow unfounded doubt about vaccine safety and effectiveness. Infectious diseases physicians will continue to serve as an objective, reliable and evidence-based source of information for our patients and communities while advocating for vaccine policies grounded in sound science.
