LPD School Zone Enforcement Project Begins May 1 | 2026

Published on April 27, 2026

The Lincoln Police Department today announced it will conduct a targeted School Zone Traffic Enforcement Initiative from May 1 through 14 to enhance safety for students, staff, and families traveling to and from school.

During this enforcement project, officers will monitor school zones throughout the city, focusing on speeding, failure to obey school crossing signals, distracted driving, and other violations that put pedestrians at risk.

Drivers are reminded that fines are doubled in active school zones when warning lights are flashing. These enhanced penalties are in place to emphasize the importance of safe driving behaviors in areas where children are especially vulnerable.

The goal of this initiative is to reduce dangerous driving behaviors and prevent crashes and injuries in school zones. Drivers are encouraged to slow down, remain alert, and exercise extra caution when traveling near schools.

The Lincoln Police Department appreciates the public's cooperation in helping keep our community's children safe.
