City of Fayetteville announces public input opportunities
for upcoming street improvement projects

Planning now for construction beginning in 2027

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - The City of Fayetteville is inviting residents, businesses and community members to participate in two upcoming feedback opportunities for major street improvement projects planned along the School Avenue corridor. Construction is anticipated to begin in 2027, and the City is seeking public input now while design decisions are still being shaped.

These projects will enhance safety, improve traffic flow and create more space for walking, biking, transit and other ways of moving throughout the corridor. The improvements are funded by an 80% federal Safe Streets and Roads for All grant with 20% matching funds from the 2019 Bond Program. The plans also are in review by the Federal Highway Administration.

"It's important that the City listens to residents before plans are designed and prior to construction," Mayor Molly Rawn said. "We see how fast Fayetteville is growing, and we have a responsibility to shape that growth with intention so the city we build works for everyone. Early feedback helps us get the details right and keeps us focused on what matters most to the people who live, work and commute along these corridors."

Two ways to provide feedback:

In-Person Open House

  • Thursday, Dec. 11
  • 4:30-7 p.m.
  • Rock Street Annex of City Hall (100 W. Rock St.)
  • This drop-in event will include maps, early design concepts and staff available to answer questions and receive comments.

Online Feedback Portal

  • Available beginning Dec. 11 at noon.
  • Residents can review project information, view maps and submit comments or survey responses at their convenience.

The planned improvements will focus on safer crossings, improved visibility, better peak-hour traffic flow, wider sidewalks and enhanced landscaping and streetscape features.

"This stage of planning allows us to be intentional. We are striving for safety, traffic flow and multimodal travel today while creating room to adapt as Fayetteville grows," City Engineer Justin Bland said. "These layouts are designed so we can add or shift features over time, whether that's reallocating a lane, adjusting turning areas or upgrading transit access as needs change."
