ASPPH Highlights Healthy Longevity at 2026 CUGH Conference

ASPPH advanced the conversation on healthy longevity during a featured session at the 2026 Consortium of Universities for Global Health (CUGH) Conference, underscoring its importance as an emerging global public health priority. The session, "Healthy Longevity: Public Health's Next Frontier in Global Health," highlighted the need for coordinated, prevention-focused approaches to support longer lives lived in good health and function.

Held on April 11, the session brought together leading experts to examine the demographic transitions shaping populations worldwide and the growing urgency of addressing aging through a public health lens. Discussions emphasized prevention across the life course, the integration of health systems and community-based strategies, and the role of policy in advancing healthy aging at scale.

The session was moderated by Dr. Linda P. Fried, Dean Emerita of Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health and Chair of the ASPPH Healthy Longevity Task Force.

• Dr. Karen Bandeen-Roche of Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health
• Dr. Patricia Morsch of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO)
• Dr. Ala Alwan, Visiting Professor at the University of Oxford and former WHO Regional Director

The convening served as an important platform to elevate the ASPPH Healthy Longevity Framework and highlight ongoing efforts to implement its recommendations across academic public health.
