On Sept. 21: Test ride e-bikes. See how you can electrify your home. Meet climate-focused neighbors, businesses, and City staff.
Test ride an electric bike, cook s'mores using a "solar oven," and meet fellow Berkeleyans and City staff at an event dedicated to powering everyday life with sun and wind-generated energy.
Among the nearly two dozen local businesses and nonprofits that'll be at the Sept 21 event, you'll be able to see tools to not only electrify your ride, but also your home. Heat pumps - which can efficiently heat water and regulate your home's temperature - for homeowners and renters will be on display. Portable induction cooktops will brew tea for visitors to sample and showcase its technology.
Each step you take to electrify using clean energy reduces impact on the planet and can lower your own expenses.
The City will host the event at the new all-electric Willard Park Clubhouse. All ages are welcome. Kids can make smoothies by pedaling a bike and create sun art. We'll have food trucks and activities. And you can finish the event by picnicking in the park.
Berkeley Sun Day
Sunday, September 21, 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm
Willard Clubhouse & Park
2720 Hillegass Ave
Bike valet available
In Berkeley, if you electrify your appliances, they will most likely be powered by clean energy.
About 75 percent of Berkeley residents and businesses already receive 100 percent solar and wind energy to their homes through Ava Community Energy. Ava buys electricity at competitive rates to help households save money and transition to wind and solar energy.
For those considering solar at home, come to Sun Day to learn about available discounted solar programs and portable plug-in solar solutions for renters.
Consider coming to the event by biking on our bike boulevards. The event will have a bike valet to safely park your bicycle; shared bicycles are available at Bay Wheels docking stations nearby. Willard Park is walking distance of several bus lines serving the Southside neighborhood; plan using the AC Transit Trip Planner.
Meet like-minded neighbors. Explore the appliances that can electrify your home and ride. Or just have a picnic under the sun. Come out with family and friends to the Berkeley Sun Day event at Willard Park on September 21.
