President John Dramani Mahama on Friday bid farewell to his Zimbabwean counterpart, His Excellency Emmerson Mnangagwa, following a highly successful three-day State Visit aimed at deepening bilateral relations and pan-African cooperation.
The visit, which took place from April 1 to April 3, culminated in the signing of ten (10) major Government-to-Government Memoranda of Understanding and one landmark private sector agreement, signalling a new era of economic and diplomatic partnership between the two nations.
The agreements span a wide array of critical sectors. These include political and diplomatic consultations; energy, health, and tourism; research and training in foreign service; sports, and archive management; trade promotion between ZIM-Trade and the Ghana Export Promotion Authority, and the African Liberation Project, a collaboration between the Institute of African Knowledge and the Ghana Museum and Monument Board.
The 11th agreement was signed between Ghana's Zoomlion Limited and Zimbabwe's Geo Pomona Waste Management, focused on sustainable waste solutions.
President Mahama and President Mnangagwa reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring the swift implementation of the signed MoUs for the mutual benefit of their citizens.
Prior to his departure, President Mnangagwa visited the Sweden Ghana Medical Centre in Accra. Impressed by the facility's state-of-the-art nuclear energy cancer treatments, the President expressed his vision to establish a similar high-tech medical facility in Zimbabwe to bolster the national healthcare system.
The visit was deeply rooted in shared history. President Mnangagwa laid a wreath at the tomb of Ghana's founding President, Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah**, honouring his pioneering role in the liberation of Africa.
In a joint communiqué, Zimbabwe expressed profound gratitude for Ghana's continued advocacy for the removal of international sanctions against it and for Ghana's support of Zimbabwe's bid for a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council (2027-2028).
In the spirit of reciprocity, Ghana welcomed Zimbabwe's offer to host the African Union Mid-Year Summit in 2027, which will coincide with Ghana's chairmanship of the Union.
Before boarding his flight at the Accra International Airport, President Mnangagwa signed the visitor's book, noting, "The warmth of this nation is remarkable."
He thanked President Mahama and the people of Ghana for their exceptional hospitality, stating, "Together, we continue to build bridges and strengthen our pan-African ties."
