Let Jamie Oliver and Checkers help you decide what’s for dinner

  • Millions of Xtra Savings customers are set to receive personalised video messages from Jamie Oliver this January - with a tailored dinner recommendation based on their real shopping habits.
  • The Dinner Done Better campaign uses Checkers' market-leading customer data capabilities to help ease mealtime decision-making at one of the busiest times of the year.
  • Customers can also access exclusive Jamie Oliver dinner recipes online with all ingredients available for delivery in under 60 minutes through Sixty60.

In its latest collaboration with global chef and wellness advocate Jamie Oliver, Checkers is helping customers take one thing off their plates early in 2026: deciding what to make for dinner.

The retailer's Dinner Done Better campaign blends Jamie's culinary creativity and cooking prowess with personalisation, AI-driven content, and reliable same-day delivery to help customers cook easier, healthier meals that fit real-world schedules.

As part of the campaign's January rollout, millions of Xtra Savings customers will receive a personalised video message from Jamie - greeting them by name and recommending a recipe aligned to what they typically buy from Checkers.

This next generation of personalisation builds on Checkers' 2025 campaign, that used AI to produce unique voice recordings of Jamie saying more than 44 000 South African names.

Now, the technology goes a step further by leveraging real retail insights, including category and protein-buying patterns, to deliver dinner suggestions that feel relevant and genuinely useful.

"With over 33.7 million Xtra Savings members, Checkers has access to the largest retail consumption dataset on the African continent. We're now using those insights to remove friction from mealtimes and add true personal value to the shopping experience."

- Ilze Bylos, Chief Marketing Officer for the Shoprite Group

All customers will be able to access a trusted selection of quick, nutritious, and family-friendly Jamie Oliver recipes online, with ingredients deliverable by Sixty60 in under 60 minutes. The recipes are paired with a short step-by-step video in which Jamie guides home cooks through the dish in his signature style.

"Dinner Done Better is about making daily life easier for our customers," says Bylos.
