On 13 August 2026, the Government appointed Laura Eiro, Master of Laws, as Director General of the Information and Security Department at the Ministry of Transport and Communications for a new five-year period, from 1 September 2026 to 31 August 2031.

She has worked as Director General of the Information and Security Department since the beginning of September 2021 and has previously served as Director of two units at the Ministry of Transport and Communications.

She has also worked as Counsellor at the Permanent Representation of Finland to the European Union in Brussels, as Programme Director at Intelligent Transportation Society of Finland, ITS Finland, and as Senior Specialist at the Ministry of Finance in the role of Secretary-General of the Technology Advisory Board.

The Director General is a member of management groups at the Ministry and is responsible for the management and effective operations of the department.

The Information and Security Department is responsible for matters relating to data and digitalisation, communication and digital services, media and postal affairs, security of communications networks and services, protection of privacy in electronic communications, safety of road traffic and transports, road transport automation and transport of dangerous goods.
