On January 17, 2025, the Honorable Stephen Acquisto sentenced Diego Flores to life in prison without the possibility of parole. On December 17, 2024, a jury convicted Flores of two counts of first-degree murder, two counts of attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, first-degree burglary, arson and four counts of felon in possession of a firearm. The jury also found true the special circumstance of multiple murders and use of firearm allegations.
On March 16, 2023, Diego Flores attempted to murder one victim by shooting him two times. That victim survived his injuries. On March 20, 2023, Flores burglarized a woman's trailer. When police responded to the burglary, Flores threatened to kill the woman for calling law enforcement. The next morning, Sacramento Fire responded to the burglarized trailer, which was on fire with the woman's body inside. It was determined she was killed by a single gunshot to the head. Investigation revealed Flores committed the murder and arson. Later that day, Flores attempted to murder another man by shooting him four times, including once in the head. That victim also survived. On March 31, 2023, the body of a reported missing man was found in a shallow grave on the grounds of Haggin Oaks Golf Course. It appeared the victim had been shot in the back of the head. Witnesses identified Flores as the shooter. All of the victims were unhoused people living in tents/trailers.
