PONTIAC, Mich. - Oakland County Prosecutor KAREN D. McDONALD charged David Lee Montgomery, a 70-year-old resident of Pontiac, with Assault with Intent to Murder and Felony Firearm.
On May 23, the defendant is alleged to have shot his wife in the face during a marital dispute. The bullet struck the victim in the jaw and barely missed the carotid artery. The victim is expected to recover from her injuries. The couple's two grandchildren were in the home at the time.
"No one should be unsafe in their own home or at the hands of an intimate partner," said Prosecutor McDonald. "I'm thankful this victim is expected to recover. We know access to firearms only makes domestic violence situations more dangerous for victims."
Assault with Intent to Murder is punishable by any number of years in prison, up to life. Felony Firearm is punishable by two years in prison, served consecutively to any other sentence.
Charges are accusations and individuals are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
