U.S. Senator Katie Britt Applauds Judiciary Committee’s Advancement of GUARD Act, U.S. Attorney Nominee Thomas Govan

WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Senator Katie Britt (R-Ala.) today attended a Senate Judiciary Committee Executive Business meeting, where the committee voted to advance her bipartisan legislation, the Guarding Unprotected Aging Retirees from Deception (GUARD) Act, as well as Alabamian Thomas Govan, President Trump's nominee to serve as the United States Attorney for the Middle District of Alabama. The GUARD Act awaits a full Senate vote, and Govan requires Senate confirmation.

"I'm thrilled to see my bipartisan legislation with Senator Gillibrand advance unanimously out of committee today. This important legislation would give local law enforcement agencies the tools they need to investigate financial fraud, particularly scammers who prey on our elderly citizens. Advancing this bill today is another important step towards bringing these faceless cowards who prey on vulnerable Americans to justice.

"I am also proud to have vote[d] to advance the nomination of one of Alabama's very own, Thomas Govan. His expertise, professionalism, and deep knowledge of the legal system provide him with an incredible foundation on which to serve the Middle District of Alabama," said Senator Britt. "I applaud President Trump's nomination and am eager to see him confirmed soon."
