The Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC) welcomes Stoke Haus Brewing & Barbecue in Nashville as the newest member of the Tennessee Sustainable Spirits (TNSS) Program.
The voluntary recognition and technical assistance program helps Tennessee wineries, wine growers, breweries, and distilleries reduce environmental impacts and operating costs associated with energy and natural resource use.
"It's always exciting when a local business chooses to not only invest resources in our state, but invest in our environment as well," said Matthew Taylor, deputy director of TDEC's Office of Environmental Stewardship. "We're proud that Stoke Haus Brewing & Barbecue has taken the steps to join a varied group of beverage industry partners improving sustainability and operation efficiency through the Tennessee Sustainable Spirits Program."
Breweries, wineries, and distilleries rely on significant amounts of water and energy to produce their products. Through the TNSS Program, participating facilities receive assistance in identifying opportunities to conserve resources, reduce waste, improve operational efficiency, and strengthen environmental stewardship.
Stoke Haus Brewing & Barbecue is located at 948 Main Street in Nashville's East Nashville community. The brewpub produces craft beer and barbecue on site, made from scratch with a focus on quality and craftsmanship.
As part of its brewing operations, Stoke Haus reuses heat-exchanger water for cleaning operations, uses an electric kettle, and incorporates efficient LED lighting. The brewery also reuses carbon dioxide in its fermentation process, recycles cardboard and paper, and repurposes spent grain. Additional waste-reduction efforts include using PakTech holders, eliminating cartons, and providing staff training on recycling practices.
"We are excited to join the Tennessee Sustainable Spirits Program and look forward to identifying new opportunities to improve our environmental performance and strengthen our operations," said Stoke Haus owner Chad Mueller.
The Tennessee Sustainable Spirits Program is open to wineries, wine growers, breweries, and distilleries throughout Tennessee. For more information about the program or how to apply, visit the Tennessee Sustainable Spirits Program webpage.
