Arlington, VA - October 31. The Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC), headquartered in Arlington, Virginia, stands in solidarity with the World Health Organization (WHO) and the World Medical Association (WMA) in condemning the horrific attacks at the Saudi Maternity Hospital in El Fasher, North Darfur, Sudan. These attacks claimed the lives of more than 460 individuals, including patients and their companions, and represent an unconscionable violation of human rights and an assault on healthcare itself.
APIC fully supports the statements issued by WHO and WMA and joins the global health community in calling for accountability and the protection of healthcare workers and patients everywhere. Violence against those who provide care is unacceptable and undermines the very foundation of public health and humanitarian principles.
