HRCP Launches a New and Improved Denver Snow Angels Platform
Published on November 14, 2024
DENVER - We at
Denver Human Rights & Community Partnerships (HRCP) are always looking for ways to connect Denverites more efficiently with much-needed services. In response to feedback from
Denver Snow Angels' volunteers and registered residents, we have revamped the program. Today, we ask all community members interested in joining Denver Snow Angels, including those previously registered, to apply or reapply using our new automated platform.
The Denver Snow Angels Program is a Denver Human Rights and Community Partnerships initiative that connects Denver community members needing assistance shoveling their front sidewalks, including adjacent ADA ramps and bus stops, during the cold winter months with neighbors interested in helping. This volunteer service program brings neighbors closer to one another while helping prevent fines for non-compliance with clearing pedestrian walkways in front of homes.
"HRCP's Denver Snow Angels Program has been a staple in our community for the past five years," said Perla Gheiler, HRCP Executive Director. "And we are so excited to be able to launch a platform, using new technologies in collaboration with our city partners at Denver Technology Services, that not only addresses the needs of our community more effectively, but that is also a direct response to feedback from our community members themselves."
The new platform, implemented through Denver Technology Services' Automation Center of Excellence program, will automatically pair homes in need with volunteers near those areas. During a Snow Angels activation, volunteers will receive an email listing addresses needing assistance within those neighborhoods they selected when they submitted their applications. With just a click of a button, Snow Angels will also be able to alert other registered volunteers when they are assisting one of the listed addresses and when they have completed the work.
"I'm so proud of the city's Automation Center of Excellence program for providing improved services to those in need through the Snow Angel automatization project," said Suma Nallapati, Denver's Chief Information Officer. "To date, this program has automated over 200 processes throughout the city, saving over 56,000 hours of staff work. Their efforts are truly allowing automation to be transactional so our staff can be transformative."
Community members can visit www.denvergov.org/snowangels to learn more and submit their applications. They can also email [email protected]. It is important to reiterate that we also need new applications from previously registered residents, whether they still need assistance, or they would like to continue volunteering.
For any additional media questions or requests, please email [email protected] or call 720-948-4645. For your planning purposes, we are coordinating a media availability for the first Snow Angels Activation. Stay Tuned!
