Doctors Hospital of Augusta has proudly contributed $10,000 to Golden Harvest Food Bank in support of the "It's Spooky to Be Hungry" annual campaign, one of the largest grassroots efforts to fight hunger across Georgia and South Carolina.
Taking place throughout October, "It's Spooky to Be Hungry" began as a neighborhood food donation drive and has grown into a powerful virtual campaign involving hundreds of businesses, schools, community groups, and churches. This initiative aims to fill plates and hearts by providing nutritious meals to families, seniors, and children in need.
Last year, in the wake of Hurricane Helene, It's Spooky to Be Hungry® shifted to provide emergency food relief for storm victims. This year, the need is even greater. Rising costs of living and economic pressures have left many families facing empty shelves and difficult choices - making the campaign more important than ever.
"Doctors Hospital is honored to support It's Spooky to Be Hungry® and stand with Golden Harvest in their fight to end hunger in our community," said Joanna Conley, Chief Executive Officer of Doctors Hospital of Augusta. "Access to healthy, nutritious food is essential for wellness. When our neighbors are nourished, they are stronger, healthier, and better able to thrive. Supporting this campaign is part of our commitment to caring for the whole community, not only within our hospital walls, but also beyond them."
Through It's Spooky to Be Hungry®, every $2 raised helps provide 5 nutritious meals for families in need. Community members can participate by hosting a virtual food drive or donating to drives already underway.
"We are deeply grateful to Doctors Hospital for their support of It's Spooky to Be Hungry®," said Amy Breitmann, President & CEO of Golden Harvest Food Bank. "The reality is that thousands of families in our region are struggling to put food on the table. This campaign brings us together in generosity and kindness, reminding us that no one should face hunger alone. With community partners like Doctors Hospital, we can bring nourishment and hope where it's needed most."
