In Memoriam: David Pfefferkorn, MD

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Dr. David Pfefferkorn, a long-tenured internal medicine physician and beloved colleague. He passed away peacefully in his home on Sunday, September 27. Dr. Pfefferkorn was well-known for his compassion, dedication and commitment to his community, as strongly evidenced by his continued care for patients in Sikeston up until his passing.

A Chaffee native, Dr. Pfefferkorn practiced in southeast Missouri for over four decades. He was board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine. He attended medical school and completed his residency at Saint Louis University in St. Louis, Missouri, after which he returned home to begin his practice.

His colleagues often remarked on how well-read he remained on medical literature throughout his career, always willing to share new information and consult on difficult cases. He was also passionate about substance abuse recovery, helping to establish Mission Missouri in Sikeston, which supports families throughout the region on their journey to recovery.

In his personal life, Dr. Pfefferkorn was a loving husband, father and grandfather, who enjoyed spending time with family outdoors on his back porch and attending his grandchildren's sporting events.

Dr. Pfefferkorn leaves us with a strong legacy of caring for others, as well as countless lives touched and improved by his wealth of knowledge, kindness, willingness to listen and his friendship. He will be deeply missed.
