Downing Appointed to House Committee on Natural Resources

WASHINGTON, D.C.-Today, Congressman Troy Downing (MT-02) released a statement following his appointment to the House Committee on Natural Resources.

"Montana is defined by its wealth of natural resources," said Congressman Downing. "The laws and regulations impacting these resources have direct implications for the people I represent, and I could not be more excited to have a seat at the table that oversees energy production, mining, public lands, irrigation, and our tribal communities as the newest member of the House Committee on Natural Resources. • Downing represents central and eastern Montana, home to some of the largest concentrations of natural resources in the country including the nation's biggest coal deposit (Powder River Basin) and only Platinum and Palladium Mine (Stillwater Mine).
• Before being elected to Congress, Downing served as Montana State Auditor where he sat on the Board of Land Commissioners, consisting of the state's five highest elected officials.
• Notable natural resources legislation championed by Congressman Downing include the Pet and Livestock Protection Act, ESA Amendments Act, Crowe Revenue Act, COAL POWER Act, Lower Yellowstone River Native Fish Conservation Act, and H.J. Res. 104among others.
• Downing is a member of the Congressional Western Caucus, Public Lands Caucus, and House Financial Services Committee.
