In an Aug. 27 letter, America's Essential Hospitals responded to the 340B Drug Pricing Integrity and Affordability for Patients (340B for Patients) Act discussion draft, urging Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-La.) to preserve the program's original intent for an up-front discount structure for covered entities.
The response raises significant concerns about the proposal's inclusion of a rebate model, along with new restrictions on patient definition, contract pharmacies, and child sites that could limit access to care.
The association also calls for any transparency and accountability requirements for covered entities to apply equally to drug manufacturers, noting that essential hospitals already face and dutifully comply with extensive reporting and compliance obligations.
