BILATERAL TALKS HELD TO ENHANCE FIJI–NEW...

The Minister for Foreign Affairs and External Trade (MFAET), Hon. Sakiasi Ditoka welcomed the New Zealand's Minister for Foreign Affairs, Rt Hon. Winston Peters, in Nadi last night.

The bilateral meeting marked Minister Ditoka's first ministerial engagement since assuming his new portfolio this week. Also in attendance were the Minister for Immigration, Hon. Viliame Naupoto, the Minister for Policing and Communications, Hon. Ioane Naivalurua, the Minister for Finance, Commerce and Business Development, Hon. Esrom Immanuel and the Assistant Minister for Agriculture and Waterways, Hon. Inosi Kuridrani.

The meeting reaffirmed the enduring cooperation and strong friendship between Fiji and New Zealand, underpinned by the Duavata Partnership, which reflects the shared commitment to regional solidarity, peace and prosperity.

Bilateral relations between Fiji and New Zealand spans a broad range of priority areas, including climate change, economic resilience, regional security, trade and investment, labour mobility, health and education, diaspora engagement and people-to-people ties.

In his first meeting with the New Zealand delegation, Hon. Ditoka acknowledged New Zealand's ongoing support to Fiji and the broader Pacific region and reaffirmed Fiji's commitment to further strengthening bilateral relations and regional cooperation.

Hon. Peters congratulated Hon. Ditoka on his new ministerial appointment and conveyed New Zealand's continued support for Fiji, as the two nations work closely in deepening cooperation for the mutual benefit of both the nations and its peoples.

Looking ahead to the new year, the Ministers reaffirmed their intention to continued cooperation across shared priorities, respond collectively to emerging regional challenges, and ensure the partnerships continue to deliver tangible benefits for the people of Fiji and New Zealand.
