Cameroon Government and IRC strengthen humanitarian partnership

Yaoundé, Cameroon, March 9, 2026 - The International Rescue Committee (IRC) and the Government of the Republic of Cameroon today announced a five-year renewable Establishment Agreement confirming the IRC's longstanding commitment to vulnerable communities in the Far North, North-West, and South-West regions.

This marks a historic milestone in the collaboration between the two parties, formally recognising the IRC's full legal status in Cameroon and providing essential administrative, fiscal, and customs facilitation. This will enable the IRC to redirect resources previously spent on taxes and other duties into greater investment in the communities it serves, thereby strengthening acceptance and impact.

Since 2016, operating under authorization from the Ministry of Territorial Administration (MINAT), the IRC has been supporting vulnerable populations across Cameroon, addressing critical needs in the areas of education and social protection, health, water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH), community economic recovery and humanitarian assistance.

Antoinette Chibi, IRC Country Director for Cameroon and the Central African Republic, said:
