PHOTOS: Peters Stops in Big Rapids on Day 4 of 10th and Final Motorcycle Tour

BIG RAPIDS, MI - U.S. Senator Gary Peters (MI) toured Ferris State University's cybersecurity training facility during his annual motorcycle tour across Michigan. Peters highlighted the need to invest in cyber workforce development programs like Ferris State's to strengthen U.S. national security, boost our global economic competitiveness, and place more Michiganders in good-paying, in-demand jobs.

"Securing our nation from cyberattacks is one of the most important national security challenges we face, and the work happening right here at Ferris State is helping make sure we have the people and expertise needed to meet that challenge," Senator Peters said. "Michigan needs talented, well-trained cybersecurity professionals who understand these threats to help prevent attacks before they happen. Developing that workforce is critical not only to our national security, but also to Michigan's economy and our ability to compete in an increasingly technology-driven world."

During the event, Peters toured the training facility and viewed real-world cyber training demonstrations with Ferris State Provost Sean Lancaster and Professor Dr. Greg Gogolin.

As Ranking Member of the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, Peters has been a top leader in ensuring our nation is better prepared to defend against cyberattacks. His historic, bipartisan provision to require critical infrastructure owners and operators to report if they experience a substantial cyberattack or if they make a ransomware payment was signed into law ensuring that incident victims receive needed support and important incident information is shared widely to prevent future attacks. Peters' bipartisan bills to enhance cybersecurity assistance to K-12 educational institutions, bolster cybersecurity for state and local governments, strengthen the federal cybersecurity workforce, and help secure federal information technology supply chains have also been signed into law.

Peters - an avid and longtime motorcycle rider - kicked off his "Thank you, Michigan" tour in Bay City. He then made stops in Alpena, Marquette, and Traverse City, before he will make stops in Grand Rapids and East Lansing. He will ride more than 1,000 miles across the state on this year's tour - which is Peters' 10^th and last official motorcycle tour.

"I've always said the best way to travel across our state is on a motorcycle," Peters said. "Representing Michigan in the U.S. Senate has been the absolute honor of my lifetime. So, this year's tour is about saying thank you to all of the amazing people and communities I've been able to partner with during my career to help make Michigan an amazing place to work, live, and raise a family."
