At its regular meeting of April 14, the Novato City Council reviewed research and community feedback on the possibility of allowing cannabis storefront retail in the city. Staff presented results from a community survey, retail market analysis and outlined possible next steps in policy development.
Following Council discussion and public comment, the City Council chose to bring the topic back to the next regular City Council meeting on April 28, so the full Council, including absent Council member Karkal, can take part in the conversation.
Exploring whether to permit cannabis storefront retail is a goal in the City Council's 2023-2025 Strategic Plan. Cannabis storefront retail refers to a physical shop where cannabis products and accessories are sold directly to customers.
The next City Council meeting will be held on Tuesday, April 28 at 6pm at Novato City Hall, 901 Sherman Avenue. The agenda will be available at least 72 hours prior to the meeting at novato.gov/agendas.
