Repairs to 2024 flood damage repair on SH-162 begin Monday

KAMIAH - Continued repairs to fix 2024 flood damage on State Highway 162 south of Kamiah are expected to start Monday, Sept. 21 and continue through the end of November.

Crews will repair flood-damaged areas for four miles along SH-162 by removing damaged material, reinforcing areas along the roadway to protect against future erosion and repaving sections as needed. Construction is scheduled during daylight hours Monday through Friday. Traffic will be reduced to one lane with flaggers directing vehicles through the work zone. Drivers should expect up to 15-minute delays, and access for local landowners will be maintained throughout the project.

This work includes stabilizing the bank along Sevenmile Creek to help protect and support the roadway. Environmental protection remains a major component of the project. In-water project areas will be dewatered before excavation to protect fish populations.

These repairs support ITD's initiative to restore SH-162 following the damage from the 2024 flood season and improve the resilience of the corridor. Since the flooding, ITD has worked with regulatory agencies and the Nez Perce Tribe to complete environmental coordination and ensure requirements are met. A portion of the riprap work was completed in January 2025 and is starting again this fall after the approval of required environmental permits.
