ICANN and UNESCO Open UA Day 2027 Call for Proposals

The global Internet community is coming together again to advance a more multilingual Internet. Universal Acceptance (UA) Day 2027 invites organizations and communities around the world to champion awareness and adoption of UA.

Organized by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) in collaboration with the community and UNESCO, UA Day provides an opportunity to bring relevant stakeholders together to advance Internet inclusivity and multilingualism and to promote UA adoption.

The collaboration builds on UNESCO's commitment to linguistic diversity and universal access, including its 2003 Recommendation concerning the Promotion and Use of Multilingualism and Universal Access to Cyberspace and the International Decade of Indigenous Languages (2022-2032). In 2026, ICANN and UNESCO launched a joint policy brief offering practical recommendations for advancing UA.

The events contributing to the fifth annual UA Day will take place between 25 March and 30 May 2027, bringing together local, national, and regional organizations to help build an Internet that supports the use of diverse languages and scripts. The call for proposals is open from 8 October to 20 November 2026.

UA is a technical requirement that ensures all valid domain names and email addresses - regardless of language, script, or character length - work across Internet-enabled applications, devices, and systems.

Now is the time to get involved. Organizers can propose events focused on:

  • UA adoption and demonstration
  • Integrating UA into academic curricula
  • Regional UA strategy review
  • UA awareness

Events may be held in person, virtually, or in hybrid format, and organizers are encouraged to bring together government, academia, technical communities, businesses, and other stakeholders.

Submit your proposal using this form. Limited funding, training, and technical guidance may be available, subject to eligibility and availability.

Join ICANN, UNESCO, and the global Internet community in building a truly multilingual Internet for all. To learn more about UA Day, visit https://universalacceptance.day.

About ICANN

ICANN's mission is to help ensure a stable, secure, and unified global Internet. To reach another person on the Internet, you need to type an address - a name or a number - into your computer or other device. That address must be unique so computers know where to find each other. ICANN helps coordinate and support these unique identifiers across the world. ICANN was formed in 1998 as a nonprofit public benefit corporation with a community of participants from all over the world.
