Deputy Minister of Defence Declares Open ‘‘Senehasa’’ Sensory Garden for Children with Special Needs

The Deputy Minister of Defence, Major General Aruna Jayasekara (Retd), inaugurated the renovated children's park and Sensory Garden at the Senehasa Education, Resource, Research and Information Centre (SERRIC) today (17 December).

The Sensory Garden has been designed to stimulate the five senses through safe and interactive elements. It will serve as an important therapeutic tool, supporting the cognitive, motor skill and emotional development of children in an engaging outdoor environment. This initiative highlights the Ministry of Defence's commitment to providing holistic care for children with special needs from service personnel families.

SERRIC provides specialised care and education for children with special needs, particularly those from military families. The newly established facility, which was renovated by the Sri Lanka Air Force, is expected to further enhance the developmental and therapeutic services available to the children.

During the ceremony, the Deputy Minister commended the dedication of the Commandant and the staff of SERRIC and reaffirmed the government's continued support for the center's vital work.

The event was attended by the Air Force Commander, the President of the Ranaviru Seva Authority, and members of the SERRIC staff.
