Topeka, Kan. - The Washburn University Cheer Team earned second place in the Open Coed Game Day division at the UCA College National Championship, bringing home new hardware.
Held Jan. 16-18 at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando, Fla., the UCA College National Championship is widely regarded as the premier collegiate cheer competition in the U.S. The event draws teams from across the country to compete in divisions including coed, all-girl, group stunt and game-day routines.
"This second-place finish reflects the dedication, discipline and pride our cheer team brings to everything they do," said Tia Benyshek, campus spirit coordinator, Washburn University. "Competing on a national stage and earning recognition among the best programs in the country is a testament to their hard work and their commitment to representing Washburn University with excellence."
The Washburn cheer team plays an integral role in university spirit, performing at all home football games, women's and men's basketball games, NCAA tournament contests and university and alumni events.
