Billionaire and Republican candidate for Ohio governor Vivek Ramaswamy admitted in an interview that he believes Medicaid and Medicare are "a mistake" despite millions of Ohioans - including hundreds of thousands of children - relying on these programs.
This revelation comes after Ramaswamy spent his career shipping jobs out of Ohio, this campaign so far flying in his private jet, and part of last year serving as the original co-conspirator in Elon Musk's DOGE scheme, which ultimately failed to cut government spending and inflicted chaos on child care providers, health care systems, veterans' affairs, and countless other programs Americans rely on. In this interview, Ramaswamy even undermined Social Security, taking "issue" with the promise of a secure retirement for every hardworking American.
A reminder: Millions of Ohio children and families count on Medicaid and CHIP for their health care. Millions more Ohio seniors and Ohioans with disabilities rely on Medicare.
The choice for Ohio voters is clear: vote for new leadership that protects the Medicaid and Medicare millions of Ohioans rely on - or vote for an out-of-touch billionaire so extreme that he believes these programs are mistakes.
DNC Deputy Communications Director Abhi Rahman issued the following statement:
"Billionaire Vivek Ramaswamy doesn't give a damn about the people of Ohio, including the millions of Ohioans who rely on Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security to survive. As Ohioans struggle under rising costs, Ramaswamy took aim at affordable health care, openly admitting he thinks these programs are 'mistakes.' This is completely in character for somebody who spent his career shipping jobs out of Ohio and helping Donald Trump and Elon Musk on their crusade against working families. Ohioans will vote to protect these critical programs by rejecting Ramaswamy's toxic agenda in November."
