NOTICE TO THE PUBLIC AND REQUEST FOR INFORMATION
LAS 35520
UNIV ALASKA LAND MANAGEMENT

Subject to AS 38.05.850, the Southcentral Regional Land Office has received an application for the following:

APPLICANT: UNIV ALASKA LAND MANAGEMENT

PROJECT NAME: LAS 35520

GEOGRAPHIC LOCATION: Within Cook Inlet, near the mouth of the Kenai River

LEGAL DESCRIPTION:

Sections 2, 11, 13, 14, of Township 5 North, Range 12 West, Seward Meridian

Section 5 of Township 5 North, Range 11 West, Seward Meridian

Section 35 of Township 6 North, Range 12 West, Seward Meridian

REQUESTED ACTIVITY: A 3-year Land Use Permit for the seasonal (May-August) placement of an acoustic array for salmon monitoring, consisting of up to 80 acoustic receivers, 12 surface buoys, groundline, and 50-80 pyramid anchors near the mouth of the Kenai River for research purposes. Receivers are each 1.2 meters long and will be one meter off ocean floor, positioned vertically. Ample space will be left between the array and the nearby Shore Fishery Leases and Fiber Optic cables.

PROPOSED DATES OF USE:
Start: May 2025
End: August 2028

DEADLINE FOR COMMENTS: May 9, 2025

The public is invited to comment on this activity. The purpose of this notice is to gather input before a decision is made on this activity. To ensure consideration, written comments must be received by the Division of Mining, Land and Water at the Southcentral Regional Land Office, 550 W. 7th Ave., Suite 900C, Anchorage, AK 99501-3577 on or before 5:00 PM on the date noted above. After review and adjudication, we may issue an authorization with stipulations for the activity. The activity may be modified during the review and adjudication process.
