$1.5M Contract Approved for Major Upgrades to Joyce Kilmer Park

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ (October 21, 2026) - Major renovations to Joyce Kilmer Park, 143 Joyce Kilmer Ave., are moving forward after the City Council recently approved a $1.5 million contract with Zenith Construction Services Inc.

The project will transform the 3.8-acre park in the Esperanza neighborhood with a walking and running loop, outdoor fitness stations, reconditioned basketball courts, renovated athletic fields, a community garden and a picnic area. A new inclusive playground will accommodate children of all abilities.

Funding is supported by a $1.9 million state Green Acres Urban Parks grant. Construction is scheduled to begin in the spring and take about one year to complete. Portions of the park will remain open on a rotating basis during construction.

Named after the New Brunswick-born World War I poet, the park serves as a vital hub for neighborhood recreation and community gatherings.
