SEMO Named to U.S. News Best College Rankings

Southeast Missouri State University has been named to the U.S. News & World Report's 2025 Best Colleges rankings. U.S. News ranks nearly 1,500 colleges and universities on academic quality.

SEMO was ranked in the top 25 in Top Public Schools - Regional Universities in the Midwest this year. It is also listed among the top 100 in Regional Universities in the Midwest, and the top 50 Best Value Schools in Regional Universities in the Midwest.

SEMO moved from 26 to 25 in Top Public Schools and from 88 to 82 in Top Regional Universities. SEMO was not ranked in the previous year for Best Value.

"I'm happy to see Southeast recognized in and moving up the rankings," said Dr. Carlos Vargas, SEMO President. "This accomplishment is a testament to our dedicated faculty and staff, who work hard to provide innovative academic programs and support that enable our students to thrive."

Using a wide range of data sources, U.S. News analysts and editors calculated over 80 Best Colleges rankings for universities that excel in areas such as value, social mobility, teaching, veterans' needs and HBCUs.

Additionally, SEMO continues to be recognized among the top performers for social mobility among regional Midwestern universities, a distinction awarded to institutions that effectively enroll and graduate substantial numbers of disadvantaged students who receive Pell Grants.

U.S. News publishes these rankings annually to assist prospective students and their families by providing valuable insights into graduation rates, social mobility, and student debt.
