'City Dialogue on Liveability' for Sustainable Urban Development in the Maldives Concludes

December 6, 2023

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in the Maldives, in collaboration with Urbanco, has successfully concluded the 'City Dialogue on Liveability,' a 2-day learning experience that brought together city councils, stakeholders, and like-minded individuals for insightful discussions on Data for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The dialogue fostered engaging discussions with experts on the Hulhumale Liveability Index, exploring the utilization of data for planning sustainable cities and communities. Participants also delved into strategies for extending the lessons learned from Hulhumale to facilitate the replication and scaling of the index.

"With rapid urbanization, Maldives finds itself at an exciting confluence between the islands and city concept. It's crucial that we actively engage in this space, sharing insights across the system, and persist in our efforts toward creating sustainable and inclusive cities, islands, and communities in the Maldives," stated Pek Chuan Gan, Deputy Resident Representative, UNDP Maldives.
