Kosmos Energy Chairman and CEO Andy Inglis in dialogue at African Energy Week 2026

At African Energy Week 2026 in Cape Town, Andy Inglis, Chairman and CEO of Kosmos Energy, joined Ghana's Minister of Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor, and moderator NJ Ayuk, Executive Chairman of the African Energy Chamber, to discuss how African resource-producing countries can attract investment while creating lasting economic value at home.

The conversation built on a panel held at African Energy Week 2025, which was shortly after the Government of Ghana and the Jubilee Partners signed a Memorandum of Understanding outlining a pathway for continued investment in Jubilee and TEN. A year later, there was tangible progress to report.

The Jubilee and TEN licenses have now been extended through 2040, and a new Plan of Development has been approved, providing greater certainty for future investment. Following a successful 2026 drilling campaign, Jubilee production has increased significantly year over year. An Ocean Bottom Node seismic survey has also been completed to improve understanding of the field and identify future drilling opportunities, with further drilling investment being planned.

For Andy, Ghana's experience illustrates a broader lesson for African producers. Attracting initial investment is only the beginning. Long-term success depends on governments and companies aligning their priorities to support continued investment, apply new technology and maximize the value of resources over time.

The discussion also explored how African countries can balance exports with domestic energy development. Andy emphasized that these should not be competing objectives. Export markets can help establish the scale and investment needed to develop resources, while domestic energy infrastructure and demand grow alongside them. Ghana's combination of international oil production and domestic gas supply, as well as Kosmos's experience at Greater Tortue Ahmeyim offshore Senegal and Mauritania, illustrate how these approaches can complement one another.

Beyond production, Andy highlighted the importance of developing local technical expertise and strengthening the capacity of host countries to manage their resources over the long term.

Kosmos remains committed to building on the progress achieved in Ghana through continued investment, new technology and strong partnerships that support energy security and lasting economic value.
