The Graduate College hosted its annual Awards Ceremony on April 23, 2026, celebrating the achievements of graduate students and faculty across disciplines. The ceremony recognized the winners of Boise State's Three Minute Thesis Competition, along with recipients of the Graduate Student Showcase Awards, the Dean's Awards, the Presidential Scholars Awards, and the Excellence in Mentoring Awards, highlighting both outstanding graduate scholarship and the mentorship that makes that work possible.
After presenting the Excellence in Mentoring Awards, Graduate College Associate Dean Deb Carter reflected on the role mentoring plays in graduate education and research.
"One of the things that stood out to me this year is how much of the incredible work we celebrated is rooted in strong mentoring relationships," Carter said. "Behind every graduate student's success, there are mentors who are guiding, encouraging and helping them navigate challenges along the way."
Leonora Bittleston, an assistant professor in the Department of Biological Sciences, and Edoardo Serra, an associate professor in the Department of Computer Science, received the Excellence in Graduate Faculty Mentoring Award.
In addition, Cyrus Koroni, a doctor of philosophy student in Materials Science and Engineering, and Holly Olvera, a doctor of philosophy student in Biomedical Engineering, were recognized for excellence in graduate student mentoring, reflecting the important role graduate students play in supporting undergraduate learning and research experiences.
A total of 53 awards were presented to students and faculty from across the academic colleges, with recipients receiving a combined total of $16,550 in award money for their exceptional research and accomplishments.
