VIDEO: During Rosen Questioning, Trump Administration Refuses to Directly Commit to Not Using AI Bot with History of Promoting Antisemitism

WASHINGTON, DC - During a Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee hearing, Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) pressed White House Director of the Office of Science and Technology Policy Michael Kratsios over the Trump Administration's decision to deploy Grok, an artificial intelligence (AI) bot with a documented history of promoting antisemitic conspiracy theories and hate speech. Senator Rosen called out the Administration for pressuring federal agencies to adopt Grok despite bipartisan concerns and a lack of accountability from xAI, and demanded assurances that federal agencies will not use AI systems that spread antisemitic content.

Below is an excerpt from the exchange:

Senator Rosen: The Administration's AI Action Plan directs federal agencies to procure only LLM models that are truth-seeking or ideologically neutral. However, this Administration has instead opted to deploy Grok, an LLM from xAI that has a long history of hate speech, including promoting antisemitic conspiracy theories. Earlier this year, I led a bipartisan letter to xAI seeking an explanation for the antisemitic tirades, however, xAI failed to answer any of our questions. Just last week, WIRED reported that the White House pressured GSA to approve Grok for use by the federal government. You can see why we should be very concerned, sir. So Mr. Kratsios, will you commit to making sure that agencies do not use AI that promotes antisemitic conspiracy theories, hate speech, stereotypes? I could go on and on. This is blatantly wrong and if you continue to do that we will continue to push back. I want your commitment that you will push back on this as well.

Mr. Kratsios: Yeah, we will commit to continue to execute the President's executive order to ensure that models procured by the government are truth-seeking and accurate.

Senator Rosen: That's not the answer. Will you commit to being sure that we do not have antisemitic hate speech, conspiracy theories, and tropes continue to be repeated in these tirades on the internet? It's a simple yes or no. You are either promoting antisemitism or you're not. So you're promoting hate speech or you're not.

Mr. Kratsios: I think we're talking about the same thing. The examples that you're giving obviously aren't truth-seeking and accurate, so I think we both agree that that's the type of behavior that the President very rightfully signed an executive order to help avoid.

Senator Rosen: Well, clearly, he's not paying attention to what's happening on Grok.
