The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is developing plans to renovate the existing NWCTD Facilities Building located at 281 Church Street.
The project is for the renovation and upgrades to the Northwestern CT Transit District (NWCTD) Facility located in Torrington, CT. This building will serve as the headquarters for administration and bus storage/operations/maintenance for the NWCTD and provide storage space for other tenants including CTDOT, NWCTD, North East Transportation Company, and other stakeholders as necessary. The design will work to modernize the NWCTD facility with a goal of eventually transitioning the facility and fleet to 100% zero-emission energy, including the modernization of its future fleet to electric vehicles. Specifically, the new facility will provide support for the existing buses and accommodate future fleet expansion. The renovated facility will also include an expanded and improved administrative and operations area for use by NWCTD staff.
The present schedule indicates that final design plans will be available in January of 2027, with a tentative advertising date for construction in spring of 2027. The project will be 100 percent (100%) state funded.
