REVISED: TRAFFIC ALERT: Upcoming and ongoing closures for Buck O'Neil Bridge work, Nov. 11-20

JACKSON AND CLAY COUNTIES - Crews with the Buck O'Neil Bridge project will make the following closures for work needed to open southbound U.S. 169 in the coming weeks.

Monday, Nov. 11

• Crews will CLOSE the ramp from WB I-70 to SB I-35 beginning at 5 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 11 until 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 19 (approximately)
• Crews will CLOSE the ramp from 5th St. to SB I-35 beginning at 5 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 11 until 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 19 (approximately)
• Crews will close 5th St. at Washington St. from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m.
• Crews will close the ramp from 5th St. to WB I-70 from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m.

Ongoing closures through Wednesday, Nov. 20:

• 3rd St. at 4th St. will be closed
• 3rd St. at Woodswether Rd. will be closed

The previous Buck O'Neil Memorial Bridge was built in 1956. Construction on the new bridge began in 2021 and is scheduled to be completed on time, at the end of 2024. The Buck O'Neil Bridge carries U.S. Route 169 traffic over the Missouri River and serves as a key regional connection between downtown Kansas City and communities north of the river.

Motorists are reminded to slow down and pay attention while driving in work zones. Not all work zones look alike. Work zones can be moving operations, such as striping, patching or mowing. They can also be short term, temporary lane closures to make quick repairs or remove debris from the roadway.
