The informal meeting of EU Foreign Affairs Ministers (Gymnich) will take place in Limassol, Cyprus, on 27-28 May.
The foreign ministers will discuss Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine, the geopolitical impacts of the crisis in the Middle East, and European security, including the European Security Strategy, which is currently under preparation.
"Russia continues to attack civilian targets and critical infrastructure in Ukraine. The EU responds with determination to Russia's aggression and must consistently continue its pressure on Russia," says Minister for Foreign Affairs Elina Valtonen.
The foreign ministers will also discuss the geopolitical impacts of the Middle East crisis with the Indian and Saudi Arabian foreign ministers.
"The impacts of the Middle East crisis and the de facto closure of the Strait of Hormuz in particular are widely felt in many countries. Securing freedom of navigation is a key interest for Finland. Finland will continue its efforts to increase stability in the Middle East as part of the international community. We consistently emphasise that lasting solutions are achieved through diplomacy, negotiation and respect for international law," Minister Valtonen says.
