Beth Ann Dobie, Alfred University provost and chief operating officer, announces the appointment of Christie Torruella Smith as the university's new vice president for Enrollment Management. Smith will begin her duties Jan. 20, 2026.
With 18 years of experience in higher education, Smith brings a strong record of innovation, strategic planning, and data-informed leadership to the Alfred community. She most recently served as the associate vice president for University Admissions and Enrollment at Nazareth University, overseeing all aspects of admissions, including first-year, transfer, international, and graduate recruitment.
Smith is widely recognized for her collaborative leadership style, her commitment to strengthening teams, and her ability to advance transformative enrollment initiatives.
"We are very excited to welcome Christie to Alfred University," Dobie said. "She is solidly grounded in our university mission and brings innovative approaches to recruiting students who will thrive at Alfred. Christie is exactly the leader we need!"

"Enrollment will play a pivotal role in laying the foundation for strong retention by ensuring students are well-prepared, well-supported, and identifying the right fit student."
Smith earned her bachelor's degree in public relations from SUNY Oswego and her master's degree in higher education administration from the University of Rochester. Throughout her career, she has been deeply committed to student success, employing data-driven strategies to optimize admissions processes and enhance the overall student experience.
Dobie, who served as chair of the Vice President for Enrollment Management Search Committee, expressed her appreciation for her fellow committee members: Barbara Condrate, director of Regional Admissions; Andrea Fagon, vice president for Marketing and Communications; Janine Mosher, associate director of Financial Aid; Tom Orrange, dean of Student Experience; Deb Steward, associate vice president for Student Experience, Athletics, and Recreation; and Collin Wilkinson, assistant professor of glass science and engineering.
