FACT: It is MSG Networks' fault that you can no longer watch your local teams. Optimum offered a variety of solutions - from sports packages to even selling MSG's Gotham Sports app to our customers. We tried hard to find a middle ground, hosting their executives in our offices numerous times and engaging in multiple calls to find a solution that would restore content for fans and ensure that those who do not view the content don't have to pay for it.
FACT : Optimum is ready to put the games on for customers who want it - all MSG Networks needs to do is give us the green light, but they won't because they want to force hundreds of thousands of customers who don't watch their content to have to pay for it. We believe this is unfair. We are open to reaching a fair deal that brings their content to fans while ensuring those who don't watch don't have to pay for it.
FACT: MSG Networks' Executive Chairman James Dolan abruptly ended negotiations with Optimum. His exact words to Optimum's CFO were, "I'm here to shut this down." This was a shocking turn of events as tremendous progress had been made to reach a deal, and Optimum was preparing for content restoration when he shut down conversations.
FACT: Fans don't lie - and they're no longer buying MSG Networks' PR stunts. Over 63% of Rangers fans polled on NYRangersInsider.com blame MSG Networks for this disruption.
FACT: Optimum has multiple solutions for customers including for Monday night's Knicks game and the Devils, Rangers, and Islanders games later this week. Call Optimum today at 866-347-4784, or chat with us to ensure you never miss a game.
FACT: MSG Networks has habitually overcharged consumers, first for cable-distributed content and now for Gotham Sports, taking what they say is a $10 p/month product and tripling that fee to $30 p/month or $360 p/year for consumers to get the exact same content. MSG Networks has done nothing to make their content more affordable. Optimum has demanded MSG Networks refund customers upwards of $125 million.
FACT : MSG Networks is spinning the truth about how many people truly watch their content. Reality is, almost half of Optimum customers with access to MSG Networks never once turned on the channel in 2024. Optimum has options for them, too. Our teams have spoken to thousands of customers over the last month, moving them into different video packages that are more suited to their unique viewing needs and saving them money in the process. We encourage our customers to call us to learn more about our various video solutions and decide what is right for them.
FACT : MSG Networks needs to take responsibility for its business failures, which center on its continued insistence on inflated, mandatory fees that penalize most subscribers in order to offset their dying business model. MSG Networks is facing an impending bankruptcy as it has been reliant on an outdated, broken, all-or-nothing model that worked for them in the 2000s. It's not right for consumers in 2025: as cord cutting accelerates and sports distribution becomes more fragmented with content available on national broadcast stations, direct to consumer apps such as Gotham Sports, Netflix, Amazon Prime and others, the RSN revenue stream is shrinking. Yet, RSNs like MSG Networks represent the most expensive content on television today and MSG Networks refuses to evolve and partner with Optimum to address how its customers want and expect their sports content.
In fact, MSG Networks Executive Chairman James Dolan himself has weighed in on the fragile and outdated RSN model, publicly stating, "The increased number of exclusive and non-exclusive games [under the new deal] means that national partners would have the ability to air nearly half of the regular season and all postseason games. This reduction in available games for RSNs risks rendering the entire RSN model unviable."
