AJC Makes Grant for Nepal Recovery Efforts Following Devastating Flooding

American Jewish Committee (AJC), the global advocacy organization for the Jewish people, has made a $15,000 grant to IsraAID to assist in relief efforts in Nepal following a devastating flood that has left thousands dead or missing.

The grant was made through AJC's Harriet and Robert Heilbrunn Humanitarian Relief Fund.

"The full scale of this disaster continues to unfold and the need for assistance grows more urgent by the hour," said AJC Asia Pacific Institute Director Shira Loewenberg. "We are proud to support the heroic efforts of IsraAID, whose teams are well-equipped to assist in this massive rescue and recovery effort."

AJC has often partnered with IsraAID, an Israel-based nonprofit that provides disaster relief and emergency assistance following natural disasters and humanitarian crises around the globe.

A massive torrent of water, ice, mud and boulders slashed through Nepal's border with China on Aug. 26 following the partial collapse of a glacier. It left nearly 1,300 dead and 4,800 missing in Nepal with hundreds more dead or missing across the border in China.

IsraAID reported it was on the ground within 48 hours of the disaster, providing family hygiene kits for those who escaped their homes with nothing, sanitation and child protection services, and mental health services to displaced persons and rescue workers.

AJC previously supported IsraAID teams on the ground in Nepal in 2017 following floods and landslides and in 2015 after a major earthquake struck Kathmandu, Nepal's capital.
