City to Deploy White Flag Activation Tonight and Sunday

The City of Greensboro will activate a White Flag warming center on Friday, December 12, in response to anticipated freezing temperatures overnight.

First Baptist Church, 1000 W. Friendly Ave., will provide overnight shelter from 7 pm tonight until 7 am Saturday, December 13. The shelter will reopen from 7 pm Sunday, December 14, until 7 am Monday, December 15. The First Baptist warming center is open to single adults and families. The warming center will not be open Saturday night, December 13.

Interactive Resource Center employees trained to work with special populations and coordinate services upon request will staff the First Baptist location.

The City's Office of Community Safety activates the White Flag status when the actual or "feels-like" temperature is 32 degrees or lower for two or more hours. A White Flag alert can take effect when the forecast or current conditions include a winter weather event with freezing precipitation, extended below-freezing temperatures, and/or wind concerns, which may impact homeless encampments.
