Morocco and Belgium are urged to strengthen their partnership with conviction and reliability, Belgian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Affairs, and Development Cooperation Mr. Maxime Prévot said on Monday in Rabat.

Speaking at a joint press briefing with Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates Mr. Nasser Bourita following their talks, Prévot spoke of ensuring the proper implementation and operationalization of the commitments agreed upon in the Joint Declaration signed on October 23 in Brussels, describing the document as "a concrete, ambitious, and balanced turning point in a strategic partnership."

Referring to the multidimensional cooperation between Morocco and Belgium, Prévot emphasized collaboration in the field of security in particular, noting the increased importance of this cooperation in the face of common threats such as drug trafficking, transnational crime, terrorism, and radicalization.

In this regard, he stressed that enhanced cooperation between the services of the two countries is "valuable and essential."

On the issue of migration, Prévot said that structural dialogue is set to continue, emphasizing that the two countries are working "with humanity and responsibility" to streamline procedures and manage this complex issue with respect for human dignity.

Concerning the economic front, the Belgian foreign minister expressed his ambition to see Belgium become one of Morocco's top ten economic partners, praising the Kingdom's commitment to supporting and facilitating the integration of Belgian economic actors into its business ecosystem.

In this context, he announced the organization of a Belgian economic mission to Morocco in 2027, composed of economic leaders and actors, with a view to enshrining the Morocco-Belgium partnership.

This mission will open up new opportunities for both countries, he said, also mentioning the 2030 World Cup as an opportunity for cooperation in sports technologies, infrastructure, and security technologies.

Referring to the issue of the Moroccan Sahara, the Belgian official reiterated the Kingdom of Belgium's clear and constant support for the Initiative for Autonomy under Moroccan sovereignty, adding that his country intends to act accordingly on the diplomatic and economic fronts.

Prévot said that Belgium has decided to extend its consular coverage, specifying that the Consulate General of Belgium in Rabat covers the Kingdom of Morocco as a whole, including the Moroccan Sahara region.

He also announced that the Belgian ambassador to Rabat will soon pay a visit to the Sahara region to prepare and support several economic initiatives, such as visits by Belgian companies and the organization of economic fairs by the three regional agencies, noting that several Belgian companies are willing to implement projects that meet the Kingdom's expectations.

"Morocco and Belgium share more than a diplomatic relationship," Prévot stated, praising the historical ties, common values, and shared vision of Rabat and Brussels for a modern, ambitious, and resolutely forward-looking partnership.
