Pair Sentenced for Charges Stemming from Child Abuse, Death of Child

On August 12, 2025, the Honorable Maryanne Gilliard sentenced Jason Chitnis to 25 years to life in prison. On June 11, 2025, a jury convicted Chitnis of first-degree murder and assault on a child under the age of 8 causing death. On May 22, 2025, Dyamond Hudson pled guilty to one count of child endangerment causing death and two counts of willful infliction of cruel and inhuman corporal punishment resulting in a traumatic condition. She was sentenced to 12 years and 8 months in state prison.

When the defendants were in a dating relationship in 2021, Chitnis took care of Hudson's 5-year-old son when she was at work. Over the course of several weeks, Chitnis physically abused the child causing fractures to his ribs and pelvis as well as a perforating his large intestine making it difficult for the child to eat. Hudson knew that Chitnis was physically abusing her son and continued to leave him in Chitnis's care. On August 3, 2021, Chitnis abused the child to the point of causing a traumatic brain injury that resulted in the child's death.
